Autonomous digital architectures and experiences in the free metaverses 9.10 | 19:00 – 22:00 Auditorium, Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura The Metaverse is a virtual world, described in Neal Stephenson's 1992 science fiction novel Snow Crash, where humans, as avatars, interact with each other and software agents, in a three-dimensional space that uses the metaphor of the real world, however, without physical limitations (Wikipedia). Until today, the creation of synthetic worlds or metaverses were reduced to large companies that wrinting proprietary programs, establishing a business model based upon their own platform exploitation (Secon Life or World of Warcraft). In this context, the development of Opensim, based on open source and supported by a significant community, can be compared to the advent of the early free web servers, that allowed anyone to own a server and to connect them through the Internet, definitely popularizing and democratizing the WWW. Within Water4Bits conceptual framework, the simposium will present contemporary experiences and the state of the art of autonomous metaverses. Digital artists, architects, students and the general public are invited to join the discussion.
